Dinner was infinitely better than the rest of Wednesday. Potatoes, leeks, broccolini, carrots, celery, veg broth, cheddar and sour cream combine to make an awesome stew, especially if you leave it in the crockpot for about 6 hours.

The following questions I direct towards any of my readers that knit, crochet or play with yarn occasionally, in the interest of getting an idea of what people look for in a skein of yarn.

What is your favorite fiber?
What kind of yarn do you use the most, bulky or thin?
Singles or 2 ply? More?
Do you look for ecologically friendly materials, or use synthetics?
Do you look for non-animal fiber derived yarns?
Would you be willing to pay a bit more for a handspun product to support small business?
Do you prefer to buy yarns online or in person?
If shopping online, do you buy more from large warehouse-style sites, or from small artisan sites?
Are clear pictures or detailed descriptions more appealing to you?
Does an artisan website with an active blog help you to feel more connected to the artisan and their product?

If you want to email these questions to a person you know who knits, have them email me their responses to the address in my info section. Thanks in advance for the info.. I'm starting by talking to my friends and people I know, and then I'll try over the summer to see what sells the best and keep morphing along with things.

I can't help feeling a little ill about the 'marketing' tone of my questions. Bill Hicks reminds me of the evils of advertising research, and I feel the slippery slope... but I'm not interested in mass marketing. I can only make so many skeins a day, and I just want to pay the bills, not get rich. I'm still going to make yarn that I think is cool, but knowing what people want will help me to focus my resources.

Now that the chamomile tea is beginning to kick in, I'm off to bed.

Later.
