So the writing begins..
Nov. 1st, 2006 07:15 pmWell, I'm already about 780 words into this great experiment called NaNoWriMo. I think I've only gotten this far by convincing myself that I don't actually have to write anything good, I just have to write. No real plot, either, just sort of a vague idea of what I'd like the story to be.. and that's as far as I've thought about it, honestly. I don't care if I end up with a series of vignettes that I tie together into a nice pretty bow before the end, or a weird rambly piece that is horribly boring, as long as I keep doing it.
I find myself staring at the walls a bit already, trying to think stuff up, but that's probably just my inner editor trying to steer things and write things like coherent sentences. So, I'll try to let go and let the story steer itself. Coherency be damned!
In other news, Murphy and Emerald are doing well, and my sister went to see Lorraine Warren in Storrs, CT on Monday evening, which we chatted about this afternoon. My mom, stuck in a house full of alcoholics, is amused that now that her kids are grown, she still can't have a Bailey's on the rocks whenever she'd like. I told her we'd have to take her out drinking when we go home in December.
Our Samhain was really nice.. we went over to the Halloween party the Biology department was having, all dressed up as V and Wonder Woman, respectively. There were lots of adorably science-related pumpkins that various lab groups had carved, a corn 'maze' and bowling with pumpkins (just don't.. it's really messy!). Out of the 4 people who had dressed up, I won the costume contest, and a bag of very tasty Ghirardelli squares. From there, we had drinks and some tasty gnocchi downtown and made it back home in time to greet the trick-or-treaters with candy. I put the small satellite speakers in the front window and played a spooky sound effects CD, and a few candles in the window, and a few more votives outside lining the front walk. Not many people were venturing down our street, so I ended up standing outside on the front walk with a big bowl, which worked much better, and I gave away all the many bags of candy we'd bought, saving only the tastiest bits for ourselves.
After watching another episode of Most Haunted, we had a lovely small ritual, and collapsed into sleep around 3 this morning.
Off to more writing!
Later.
