Catching snowflakes on my tongue...
Feb. 26th, 2006 12:22 amFinally got up this afternoon and went out to see Brokeback Mountain. Wow. The film was understated, beautifully acted and directed, powerful and left me ruminating on lost love, those moments when words don't really express what's in your heart, and times when a few words speak volumes.
J took me out for a really amazing meal at Fresh Pasta Co. in Noho, and I'm not only looking forward to devouring the leftovers for lunch, I'd love to go back again sometime, as there's a wild mushroom flatbread pizza with gorgonzola and caramelized onions that is calling my name seductively. The snow was coming down in huge fuzzy flakes when we were walking to the restaurant, and I was running around, giggling like an idiot and trying to catch them on my tongue. Ended up with more in my eyes and nose, but it certainly helped to pick my mood out of the soles of my shoes. Never underestimate the power of some well-timed siliness.
Came back to play several rounds of Karaoke Revolution with A, while J worked up some XP in City Of Heroes, and I finished working on the armbands I was knitting.
I talked with my dad a bit this afternoon, they're going to let a room to one of my sister's friends for a while, and that should help somewhat.
I'm still working on letting go, and not worrying too much about things beyond my control.. I'm definitely feeling a bit overwhelmed, but in a way I'm almost used to stuff like this. As long as I can keep getting up and going to work, there will at least be a modicum of comfort in a familiar routine.
I neglected to mention finally having seen Sin City on Wednesday night, and I really liked it, even though it broke my head pretty thoroughly in spots. Gorgeous atmosphere, and some great characters in massively messed up situations.
I'm looking forward to another low-key day spent with beloveds tomorrow, then a kickass concert on Monday, and an evening shift (hooray!) on Tuesday night.
Later.
-Me.
