An interesting weekend..
Jan. 23rd, 2006 02:06 amIntense trip. Got on the bus in the morning on Friday to head for New York from Boston, and ended up stopping off at the buffet place in Manchester for 15 minutes along the way, which was a bit odd to me.. I woke up from my half-sleep and found myself in my hometown, and Henri discovered his special power to carry veggie lo mein around with him to throw at people. In the world of crazy superpowers, that's not a bad one, especially if the noodles are still hot. *giggles* All theoretical, of course.. no one actually threw any noodles around.. but I still think it's funny.
Turns out that a few people on the bus with us were not only going to the show at Spirit, but they were also planning on visiting the Chapel Of Sacred Mirrors beforehand, so Sam led the way for us all, navigating through traffic and subways to our destination. The gallery is breathtakingly beautiful, and the paintings touched a deep chord in me.. so powerful to get to look at the originals up close, texture and detail much more apparent than in a print or image on a website. There were several paintings in the gallery adjacent to the Sacred Mirrors series that were new to me, and I could have spent an entire afternoon in front of several of them. Something about seeing his work makes me long for the feeling of oil paint leaving my brush for canvas, and I'm really looking forward to having studio space again someday.
Wandered around, procured some dinner, hung out until the show, which was very long, and loud and intense. The music flowed into itself beautifully, and I spent quite a bit of time enjoying the effects of blacklight on highlighter pens. Gave H a third eye and the illusion of glowing skeleton hands, which several other people noticed and commented on, much to my delight. They did look pretty cool, and his dancing with them was lovely. Sam had awesome spirals drawn on, and was much fun to watch in the lights.
Got back on the bus in the early morning after leaving the show, and headed back to Boston with a coconut custard pastry in hand from Chinatown. Crashed into bed after a hot shower, and slept until the evening. Worked on some new V:TES decks with Henri and playtested them until the wee hours, then conked out again.
Breakfasted with my beloved this morning, then headed out to work in VT in the afternoon. The shift went by smoothly, as I'm feeling much better, and I'm home in Sunderland now, about to head to sleep so I can get up and get stuff done for the car in the morning before work.
Tuesday night I'll be in Northampton, and the rest of the week is sort of an unknown until I find out whether I'll be working on Thursday or not, and whether I've gotten Friday off or not for Vericon. Either way, I'll be in Boston for Vericon on Saturday, and then back out to VT for work on Sunday afternoon.
Sleep now, before my brain falls out.
Later.
