Started the afternoon listening to NPR's Shuffle podcast, and ended up getting some good writing done, as well as the creation of a new yarn. Henri and I never tend to listen to podcasts when they come out, instead saving them and listening to several in a row when we have time. Enjoying a segment of the podcast led me to turn on the radio and listen directly to the local public NPR station, and though too much news in one day can lead to depression very easily, I think I did a good job of dealing with it today, keeping my hands busily carding and spinning, and making time to be inspired by beauty. Watching the fish, the birds on the patio or just reading some good poetry helps immensely. As does enjoying the Daily Show and the Colbert Report. Being able to laugh at the news actually helps me to not feel so hopeless sometimes.

Here's my high-tech yarn drying method. It involves dripping.

The new one is on the right, next to the rainbow yarn.. Red merino wool blended with black alpaca, spun thick-and-thin and plied with a thin black alpaca single. Sort of gothy colors.. I may try the next one in purple and black. Maybe even with sparkles, they're fun. Stock builds up slowly... I'll post another progress photo soonish.

Later.
