Been enjoying getting in touch with new Handspun Secret Swap pals, and thinking of new yarns to try out.

Had a great long rambly conversation with Tim this afternoon, and figured out how to use the speakerphone feature on my phone, which made me much happier than holding a cell phone near my head for an hour and a half. The books he sent us for Solstice, the His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman, are sitting happily on the bookshelf, waiting to be savored. I'd heard of them, somewhere, but never picked them up. Anyone reading this have any opinions?

I'm beginning to feel better.. getting over the head cold has been taking long enough, nevermind getting punched by the moon tide yesterday. Slept in today while Henri went to class, and got up this afternoon to pad about the apartment, alternating between the computer in the office, the spinning wheel, and the futon reading the Complete Stranger In A Strange Land. No newspaper again. Grr.

Later.

...the His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman,...

i liked the first one but the second frustrated me and i don't think i ever read the third. the symbology just got to be too damn obvious and the characters lost the great spark they had in golden compass. but golden compass was awesome. i think i read it in about three hours!
