I did indeed buy the antique wheel recently pictured in this journal that Hannelore let me take home, and I've been happily spinning on it every day since it entered the house. I'd sort of been postponing posting for various yarn-related reasons, like wanting to have enough finished yarns to take some photos of, both to mark my progress and for media for my website, and then I realised that I should just do it anyway, lest I procrastinate forever. So.. even though I started soaking several skeins tonight and they aren't pictured, I think this is still a fair sample of some of my recent work.

First: all the balls of single-ply yarn I've made on the wheel so far.

Secondly, all the (currently) finished balls of yarn I've made since I started spinning with drop spindles over the summer.. it's probably been about 5 months or so, but the bulk of my work's been done in the past 3 months.

From left to right, my drop spindles, with soy silk on the larger one and silk on the smaller one in front. They're in front of a small scarf draped over the wheel base that I knitted from the soy silk I finished spinning in Chicago. To the right front of the spindles are 2 small green balls of 2-ply yarn made from corn fibers that were a giant pain in the ass to spin. They didn't like being plied, either, and broke apart. In front of the recent single ply wool from the wheel are some 2-ply balls of merino wool of various colors I got from Webs and spun up before and during the trip out here, and my recent ball of silk roving, all blue and thin in front, with a teeny ball of flax I started and abandoned when I got the silk. On the far right are the two balls of yarn that started it all, the first one Sam plied, and in front of that one, my very first finished ball of wool yarn.

There are probably 3-4 more large balls' worth of plied wool currently drying on the towel rack in the bathroom, and I'm working on a thin yarn of the silk/merino blend, which you can see the roving of hanging down off the wheel in the upper right hand corner of the image.

Other than spinning and sleep, not much to report. Still waiting to hear back from GW, and I still haven't made the pumpkin stew I wanted to try earlier this week... but the pumpkin will keep until Sunday or Monday, I'm sure.
Friday night, we've been invited to a party some of the other Bio grad students are having, and then we'll go to a midnight showing of The Shining, which H has never seen. Saturday is the big Spiral Dance in San Francisco, and Sunday is sleep and laundry. I'd probably be happier about making the stew if I didn't have to bake the pumpkin for an hour.

Our costumes arrived, Henri's a few days ago and mine on Thursday morning. I haven't tried mine on yet, but the stitching is much better than the other one, so I'm happier already. Henri's V costume looks amazing on him.. and I'll probably wear it myself at some point down the road.

Ok.. time for a snack and some more spinning before bed.

Later.
