Kahlil to the rescue!
Nov. 30th, 2007 01:46 amI owe Woman all my life,
I owe her this self which was born from a cry,
I owe her all my writing.
Woman opened my eyes.
Woman freed my soul.
Without Woman-mother,
Woman-sister and Woman-friend,
I should have dozed among those for whom
Drowsiness is a divinity
and snoring a form of worship.
----------------------------
Is not a weak woman the symbol of a subject nation?
Does not a woman torn apart by the inclinations of her soul and by her body's fetters resemble a nation overwhelmed by its leaders and its clergy?
Woman is to the nation what light is to a lamp. If the oil were lacking, would not the lamp lose its glow?
-Kahlil Gibran
