Your Result: Artistic Nerd

Whether it's painting, sewing, drawing, arts and crafts; or just splashing paint onto a canvas and calling it art; you mostly fit this description. Lots of people envy the artists, but be humble and keep working on it. There is a shortage of true artists today who actually contribute anything to society.

Widgets!

The plunge has been made... into OS X Tiger, anyway. I'm delighting in all the nifty widgets I have found, like the Jared: The Butcher Of Song widget. This is a very old and odd thing from waaay back when I first got my Macintosh Performa, around 1995. I was a subscriber to MacAddict magazine, and they sent out CDs with the issues, containing all manner of shareware awesomeness. Freeverse Software, creators of Comic Life, produced Jared and SimStapler ages ago, along with a bunch of other ridiculous things that I immediately turned to my old shareware folder to play with again in OS 9.

Here's the text from the Jared file from waay back, which is sadly not included with the widget. A special bit of bonus content, since I'm just silly enough to copy it over by hand here.

"Jared liner notes, reprinted with permission from 'Run, run while you can! : A Jared Discography'.

While Central America has seen more than its share of atrocities in recent years; never before has a lovely Guatemalan folk song been brutalized as thoroughly as by the vocal stylings of Jared, the Head of Security at Freeverse Software. Like an angry immigration officer, Jared's distinctive rendition grabs us, slaps us around, threatens to cavity search us and ultimately demands our passport be issued from that same circle of hell from which his voice originates. Never has the mating of cats sounded so melodic as after one has listened to 'El Carnicero de Canciones,' the 'Butcher of Songs,' as Jared was known in Guatemala. Yet, this is perhaps the worst part; one is somehow drawn to his song, playing it over and over again. So listen to 'Shala-uuugh,' and suffer -- for this is art.

Jared is made possible with the gracious support of The American Atonal Foundation; Citizens for The Abolition of The Note of "C" and a generous grant from the Committee to Irrevocably Destroy Guatemalan Culture."

In case you do not have a Mac, trust me.. you're not missing anything worth spending thousands on. Poke a friend with a mac to show you.. but beware... they might hate you for it. *grin*

Between that and the Apple IIe emulator widget, I'm in heaven. Now if only I could find a rom of Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego, I'd be all set. Sad thing is, I actually have a working IIe in the attic in CT, and the disks.. but no way to copy them or anything.

We've been mostly in the office all weekend, as Henri reorganizes the files on his laptop and we prepare to set up the new one he got for school. Geekery abounds. Henri, having slept and decompressed from finals a bit, has been playing with V:TES cards, building a deck for Andre and other mundane things that have been neglected, like laundry and dishes, for which he has been awarded with backrubs.

Later.
