Mail bag!
I went to the post office this afternoon to retrieve a package, and got some amazing retro early 1960s fabric that my aunt Nancy discovered while helping Gramma clean things out of her flower shop, Mohegan Flowers in Uncasville, CT. After 50 years, Gramma's selling the business to descendants of the Mohegan tribe and clearing out a lifetime's worth of paperwork and other stuff from the shop. Had a really good conversation with her tonight that eerily mirrored another conversation I had with my mom the night before. Honesty is such a balm to the soul sometimes. Multi-generational honesty is even cooler.
At any rate, my sister agreed with my aunt that I would probably want the fabric, given my fondness for my mother's old college curtains, this crazy psychedelic pattern that my mom ended up using for my crib runner. And we wonder why I'm nuts.
The fabric is indeed awesome, and so bright it hurts. I shall add it to the collection of random crazy 60's fabrics I'm amassing slowly as relatives clean out closets. I love the stuff.

My mailbox also yielded a wonderful surprise from my Handspun Secret Swap pal, a skein of gorgeous merino wool blended with silk, and candies in honor of the Chinese New Year! I love the delivery container, and will likely pass it on this week with a skein for my downstream pal, who keeps posting gorgeous projects to her blog.
The fabrics remind me of all the dresses from the early 60's made of similarly bright, crazy patterns that ended up forming the majority of the frocks in our dress-up bin when my sister and I were children. We wore those all over the house, but even then, I don't think we ever actually wore them outside, where in the glare of the sun, they might blind birds and other passersby, perhaps leading to traffic accidents. Truly, we were wise beyond our years.
Spent much of today in cleaning mode, and much tidying has been accomplished. Now to go spin until I am sleepy.
Later.
-Me.
