Dec. 1st, 2006

Finished weaving my first set of projects this evening, though I still have to put the finishing touches on each piece in the next few days. Feels good to have at least one thing crossed off the list. This week and next are going to be crazy busy as we try to get all manner of things prepared and shipped out before we pack and get on the plane.

Apparently my arrival in New England was well-timed, since one of the dance teachers I used to work for heard that I'd be in town and has asked to hire me for her Christmas Show at Cheney Hall. This amuses and pleases me. I can't seem to find anything out here, but when I go home on vacation, I get a gig.

I watched the most hilarious scientific flame session with Henri tonight. I love how completely nuts Richard Dawkins is. I hate to admit it, but the always crass recent South Park episode skewering him was pretty accurately parodying things he's said. Watching Joan maintain her composure and restrain herself from choking him to death gave me so much more respect for her dedication to actually reaching out to people instead of just dismissing them completely. Check out the Beyond Belief website and click on the link to Session 3 to watch it for yourself.

I've liberated my size 11 enormous bamboo knitting needles from their packaging and have started yet another knitting project with all my thicker wool yarns. I think it wants to be a small multicolored throw. Unfortunately, I'm now out of yarn of that thickness, 3 balls in. I will need to spin more.

I soaked most of the finished merino wool skeins involving green tonight, and now I wait impatiently for them to dry so I can begin constructing random gift objects for a few lucky people. I'm almost glad about having to wait a bit, though, since knitting so much tonight has made my knuckles and fingers on my right hand ache like crazy.

Nano is over, and my grand total was a measly 5509 words, but I'm really okay with that. I have been otherwise productive this month, making a ton of yarn, learning to weave and cooking a fantastic meal for Thanksgiving. Perhaps next year I'll be able to keep at it without becoming neurotic. Then again, perhaps that's part of the fun.

Off to bed, finally. I can knit no more, and now my eyes hurt.

Later.
