Today's Corpse Bride costume went over quite well, I think.. for all that I've ended up wearing it the entire day. Worked this morning, got some positive feedback and a few startled glances and double-takes that made all the buttoning up worthwhile. Headed over to the co-op's annual meeting as soon as my shift was over, and while the food was excellent, the presentations and dialogue got more and more inspired and open-hearted as the evening went on, and I'm left with such an appreciation for the Brattleboro community and their fantastic energy. Even when there's a lot of seriousness in the mix, everyone seemed to be listening to each other, and the group brainstorming sessions were filled with such good energy. I may not be a part of this organization's long-term future, but I will certainly look forward to seeing where they take it in the years to come. With enough dedication, a group of people who understand the co-operative spirit can change so much, and this society, this world is crying out for this kind of compassionate development of true community.
I found myself talking about goals, and the vital need to include visionaries, artists and children in the development process for the freshness and vision they can bring to the table that a more practically minded person might not find within themselves.. bring in the fools and jesters for their vision, then hand their raw dream-stuffs over to the community and ask the practical ones to help implement it all. :)
Then the general irony hit me, after I'd passed the microphone on, that a woman dressed as a corpse had been talking about soul-growth. *snicker* Ok, maybe I am the co-op's court jester, but at least the community is open to hearing what I bring to it, and listening with respect. That is priceless.
Time to go take pictures of this monstrosity so I can finally undo all these buttons and breathe well again.
Later.
-Me.
