Disembodied wonderings.
Sep. 26th, 2005 12:14 amI'm really pleased by just how good Anansi Boys is. Once I pick it up, I really don't want to have to put it down again, especially for silly things like eating, helping customers after my break, phone calls and other unfortunate necessities.
Having a father like mine, who could occasionally be described as embarrassing, makes some of this book even funnier to me, though children are perennially embarrassed by their parents. Comes with the territory, especially during the teen years, where we're more horribly self conscious than ever before.
There's also a distinctly Neil Gaiman feeling to all of it.. bits in the story so far have reminded me of moments in The Doll's House in Sandman, and Neverwhere.. something not quite right at the edges of perception. A feather rustling, a snip of fur, a comment made without thinking, and suddenly everything is much more complicated.
Anyway.. back into the pages.
Later.
-Me.

But let there be space in your togetherness
And let the winds of heaven blow between you -
Sing and dance together and be joyous
But let each of you stand alone
Even as the strings of the lute are alone
Though they quiver with the same music.
-Kahlil Gibran
